Tickets in Collections: GC Services

Table of Contents

Have your received a collection letter from GC Services demanding payment of an astronomical amount you supposedly owe for traffic fines? If so, it is important to fully understand what GS is and what it is not so that you are best able to act in a manner that preserves your rights.

A Collection Agency

GS Services Limited Partnership is a private collections company. Although it is used by the Los Angeles Superior Court to collect on unpaid traffic tickets, it is not legally associated with any government body or agency. While the underlying delinquency is due to the criminal court’s ruling and actions, GS Service acts with no government or official authority, and it must comply with all rules and regulations regarding collections.

Matters Turned over to GS Services

Typically, the court will employ GS Services when:

  • The ticket remains unpaid after the due date.
  • An assigned court date was missed.
  • Following a court appearance, an agreed upon fine was not paid.

What to Do after Receiving a GC Services Collections Letter

A collections letter is designed to be persuasive and create a level of anxiety in you; that is, the situation is bad and will only become worse unless you take immediate steps to rectify things. In this case, GC Services will tell you that the only way you can get your driver’s license back is if you pay the amount indicated in the letter.

What you should do upon receiving such a letter is contact an experienced West LA traffic ticket attorney, because, in many cases, the assertion you must pay GC Services to get back your license is simply not true.

When You Don’t Have to Pay GC Services

If you have already had your day in court and the matter has been fully adjudicated, you may be left with no other option than to pay GC Services, and move on. However, if your license was suspended because you failed to appear in court on a traffic citation, you may still have the opportunity to see a judge.

Specifically, your West LA traffic attorney may be able to assist you in:

  • Setting a court date
  • Saving your driver’s license
  • Resolving the matter with a better resolution, such as lower points, less of a fine or a reduction of the nature of the offense.

Additionally, you may be eligible for a one-time Infractions Amnesty Program that is currently in effect.
